So here's that MrBot drawing.

I decided he needed a little more class now that he's 10 years old. I was originally going to put 3D glasses in his right hand, but I'm SICK of glasses! (My next drawing will have someone wearing glasses)

I don't think I'm going to use these drawings for the header logo, but who knows? Maybe one day I'll decide to use them.

: I WILL DRAW CILVIA TEN THOUSAND TIMES
Monday, September 21 2009

Like I've said before, I never know what the subject line for a post is going to be until I get here.

I was planning on drawing a new Cilvia and MrBot to replace the ones in the header that I drew back in April, but it may actually take more work than I had originally thought. While my original sized file is relatively modifiable, getting the new drawings in there would not be a quick swap. I think I'll sit on the drawing below (and the next MrBot one) until I feel like revamping the entire header.

This is Cilvia...again. I've drawn her...5 times this year I believe. I can definately say that I have found my middle ground as far as shading and layers are concerned. I really like how this turned out and I look forward to MrBot looking just as good.

: well...I like the cave

Right now I have 2 main characters for my second story. The blue girl and the...dude. I think the story might actually work better in a game if you never see the character you are controlling. I would really like to see a 2d shooter (shmup) in the vein of Einhander with a serious, dramatic story. In that game, you never see your pilot...or maybe you do, I have never beaten it. So yeah, I may not concern myself with refining his design as you probably won't see him much or at all anyways. I liked his initial sketch on paper, but this piece didn't turn out like I planned.

I think I'm getting better at drawing the ladies and going NOWHERE with guys. Maybe it has to do with shiny eyes, long hair, and fair skin. I tried a darker skin tone here and just didn't pull it off. In fact, I moved right onto another drawing before this was finished and decided I was just going to publish this as is. Note the lack of signature.

It's not all bad. I like the cave entrance, and the perspective has potential but it's just not quite there for some reason...Oh well. I'm almost done with the next piece and I actually LIKE this one.

: Third time's the...

I hate cliches so I refuse to finish that statement...but it's true! Recently I have been neglecting on my shading and focussing more on the outline of the character. This is because earlier this year I tried working on only one or two layers and didn't really have much of an outline. I like me some outline. I think I found a great middle ground with this next drawing. It's also the first piece I've shaded almost entirely with a hard brush.

So my hard drive died this past weekend. It died the night of my last update in fact. If I hadn't made that update and uploaded those 3 drawings, I would have lost all that work. Sure, I no longer have the versions that are 4 times larger and on multiple layers, but this last drawing here really helped ease the pain. I am quite satisfied.

: Three updates, this time for real!
Saturday, September 5 2009

I didn't want to post anything until I had something substantial. That "revival of a classic?" That can be found here. I didn't really like how it turned out so I decided to move onto a new character design. I basically wanted long blue hair and glasses. Here is what I came up with. While I actually managed to get some shading done on this one, I was ultimately not satisfied.

So I decided to take another shot at the blue girl, this time with a little patience. I actually created 2 name brands specifically for the universe this character lives in. I've been wanting to draw some winter clothes for a while now and here's what I came up with:

I drew glasses on her, but decided she looked better without them. I really liked this piece for a while, but now that it's finished, I would have done a lot of things differently. Oh well, maybe I'll draw her AGAIN next...or a jet.
