: sometimes I like it rough
Sunday, July 26 2009

I started this one on friday afternoon. Today I opened it up to start the long, arduous process of adding details to the character and background. Instead I threw some more snow in there and slapped on a signature.

I really didn't want to lose the feel of this piece so after staring at it for 5 minutes, I decided that it was "done." It's really hard to know when to quit and I think keeping this one rough was the right idea. I definitely want to come back to the ice stage again once I've gotten better at perspective.

: Another Breeze

My next big piece was going to be Buster 3 taking on Breeze on a snow covered mountain. I decided Breeze's character design needed some work so I drew a character study and ended up making it into a complete drawing.

I'm not sure what it is, but I don't really like how it turned out. I think I'm going to have Buster fight "Glaze" instead. I mean, that's the guy that put snow on the mountain in the first place.

: I used to hate Zetch...

and then I drew this. This piece is a HYBRID of sorts, combining my traditional paper sketch -> digital outline style with my recent works. I put a heavier emphasis on shadows and I think it really benefitted from it.

"Threadfrenzy" was a quick drawing and while I'm pretty satisfied with the outcome, I really don't know WHAT style I want to go ahead with the next piece.

: No, it's okay since it's an homage.

A major drive for this drawing was to actually draw a character's hair instead of seeing it flying around like crazy in the wind. I also decided that it was high time for a color drawing of Spider Clan Boss #1. Well the tiny piece of paper with his face on it totally ruined the mood of the image so I scrapped it. So hey, this is our mid-boss Sei.

As you can see, she is a very conflicted character. I changed the daggers pretty significantly and was very pleased...then I zoomed out to what would become the actual size and realized they were TINY! They are essentially kunai but the odd perspective makes them much smaller looking than I had originally intended. Oh well, maybe next time.

One thing I'd like to point out is the way the "rudra" is breaking up. This scene is towards the end of the game where everything is...happening.

: Hakuna Matata!

Seriously, relax people!

Hey, it's July! I was so close to finishing this piece for yet another June submission but then Blazblue had to occupy entirely too much of my time this week. Will there be fanart? Probably not for a while if anything. BUT we do have even more Rudra stuff as usual right under this paragraph:

It almost seems like the girls are showing a little more skin every time. Look, it's HOT in the jungle. Nobody wants to wear a heavy lab coat in the jungle, even if it is make believe. I usually switch back and forth between the male and female characters, but I think I just have to draw Sei next. Spider Clan Boss #1 will be in there somewhere...maybe on a wanted poster.
